Children’s World Ltd prides itself in a history spanning two decades. The company has learned to purposefully innovate, as the need for alternative approaches to nurturing the healthy growth of children has evolved. The company has learnt to consciousy recommit, time and again, to the well being of each children, who are the precious part of our lives. At the time of setting up Children’s World, the founders were themselves parents of pre-teens, in whose growth they were intimately involved. The Directors had a burning desire to create conditions that shaped the best possible ‘growth curves’ for their children. The directors had the benefit of extensive travel globally, all resulting from their individual careers, one in the social development field and the other in agricultural engineering.
They were both discerning Kenyan parents, sensitive to the wellbeing of all children. A striking point of commonality between the Directors, , was the costant obsession with the absence of reliable safe havens where parents could take their children for safe and engaging play. Havens where they could be assured of their children’s safety and security.
The search for such an environment, gradually led to a solution that broke new ground in Nairobi – the ultra-modern, Children’s ‘Pay and Play’ edutainment facility based at the Adams Arcade, on Ngong Road, in Nairobi.
The pioneering Childrens World innovation quickly evolved to a truly unique Edutainment Haven: The facility consisted of a purpose designed all-weather, indoor ‘spaciaous compound’ comprising of a range of edutainment opportunities for children of ages 3 to 12 years.
Children’s World burst onto a lonely scene to address a clearly attendant need – the dearth of suitable entertainment facilities for children in urban settings across Kenya. While borrowing from
other environments in order to create this solution, it was the conviction of the founders that children deserved decent opportunities to play, learn and grow in a warm welcoming environment where they could feel valued, challenged and appreciated.
Today, Children’s World has distinguished herself as a unique, sought after brand. The company has quietly excelled in the area of edutainment activities that retain a specific niche rather than appearing to be in competition with day care centres or any similar kinds of formations.
In the world of managing and establishing Crèche’s, Children’s World creates nurturing spaces that enable children from a diversity of backgrounds and traditions , to quickly locate their spaces and appreciate themselves. We help children to explore, interact and grow into well socialized individuals, aware of their stage in development, the role of adults and to know their surroundings. We help them to learn to express themselves as per the need and according to situation and context, and to operate with respect and purpose.
Quality, reliable and attractive, safe havens for children to play, learn and grow into friendly, curious and confident citizens.
To provide a clean, secure and stimulating environment in which children develop their psycho-social skills, make friends and interact positively with other children and adults.
Our solutions are powered by curiousity and imagination, coupled with a touch of optimism and a practical dose of realism
March 2018 saw an Intercontinental Hotel Breakfast event hosted by Safaricom Ltd: The event was a launch of an IFC Report: Tackling Childcare – The Business Case for Employer Supported Childcare. The colourful and ground-breaking book featured 10 Business Cases from around the World, including Kenya’s Safaricom. The report concluded that there was a Direct Correlation between good child care at the work place and the productivity of staff with young children. Indeed, the study proved, with data what CW had always believed; that a parent is significantly more productive and loyal if and when they know that their child is safe and in good productive care.
It is not out of the ordinary for any parent and, as some would argue, particularly, a Mother, to perceive their child as the ultimate treasure ! For us at Children’s World, this is a perfectly understandable instinct. Therefore, we protect children for what they are worth: Priceless! They represet the present and ultimately, The Future!
As a standard, Children’s World staff is carefully trained to treat children as delicate “individuals, where they are, as they are, to team-up with them to progress to where they should be”. Children’s World Staff know every child is a special Individual. That every child in their care has their unique needs, to discover and nurture. For these reasons, Staff take full responsibility for all management aspects of Children under their care.
Staff strive to provide regular and sometimes not-so-pleasing feedback to the parents. Staff know they continually exist as part of a team with parents and sometimes, parents may gloss over some
observations, some concerns, some opportunities that they should remain aware of. This approach and attitude has ensured that all users who subscribe to the range of Children’s World facilities and programs have a say, and they receive the best possible service.
• Engage children in innovative and practical edutainment offerings to ground their foundations and contribute to their overall imagination, creativity and enable them to reach their greatest potential.
• Provide credible and observable responses and action towards the felt needs of working parents through innovative products, practice and partnerships.
• Contribute to the building and constant reinforcement of positive attitudes and strong characters in children to enable them to exude confidence in themselves as they grow.
Into the second decade of its existence, Children’s World has expanded its business approaches to designing, establishing and managing Crèches both for the corporate as well as the public sector. This line of business has gained traction as young parents continue to seek the assured safety and security of their children while they work.
The Corporate Crèche brand of the company has become a preoccupation at Chidren’s World in recent years. Working with highly reputed companies such as Safaricom, Kenya Airways and the Mwalimu National Sacco, Children’s World has continued its tradition of innovation. The most critical value-added benefit for Corporates to their staff is often the opportunity created for young mothers and fathers to come to work with their babies (usually following maternity leave), toddlers and other children under the 12 year age bracket. Employees are known to perceive this as an important perk in the range of benefits provided to staff as part of their standard job considerations. This practice is increasingly being sought after by other Corporates who seek imaginative ways of retaining staff loyalty through such approaches. Children’s World has entertained numerous benchmarking visits to showcase this new approach to according staff benefits in those Crèches, managed by the company.
The basic working model is one where parents arrive at work, drop-off their little ones at the Crèche for Children’s World teachers to look after, as the parent proceeds to face their tasks for the day. This way, busy parents can work and get on with their busy lives at peace, fully assured by their close proximity to their highly valued, delicate ones.
On the odd occasion, a parent will come to work with a child who has a dental or other medical appointment. The child can then be entertained at the Crèche until the appointment time comes. Alternatively, a parent may pick a child from school and bring them to the Crèche to be assisted with homework until the parent is ready to go home. This occasional departure from what might be considered a predictable path of activity is the hallmark of the type of service that Children’s World seeks to provide. At Children’s World, we try through deed, to live up to the often quoted adage that ‘our world revolves around our children’.
Children’s World has introduced and managed innovative events for Corporates with the express intent of adding value to their employees’ experience and a times, to even contribute to the Corporates’ CSR package. Parents may wish to organize a Birthday or other celebration for their little one at the Crèche, among their friends. Corporates may also choose to organize events such as where children accompany their parents to work in a ‘job-shadowing’ format. Children’s World is also exploring a range of parenting classes for staff, House Managers (domestic staff) training, First-Aid training, Children’s - Homes visit days (spent at the Corporate), Corporate Anniversary celebrations and other special events.
Children’s World is currently working on establishing a’one-of-a kind’ Kid’s Club at the ultra-modern Wadi Degla, East Africa Family and Sports Club in Runda, Nairobi. The resulting Corporate partnership will serve a membership of 2000 families who are current members. Children’s World activities will target a cohort of youth,of about the same numerical size, at a 16 years and under age range. To begin with, the age range of focus for the Kids Club will be 3 months to six-year olds. A Crèche setting will provide the overall operating model.
The Wadi Degla partnership will enable Children’s World to practically explore her full potential. Among upcoming possible programs will be creative approaches to working with over-sixes, teenagers, parents and other groups.
Activities under consideration will include, but not be limited to:
• A specialized, custom designed activity daily program modified or adjusted based on the children’s preferences (age-range and interests).
• A continually growing range of play themes, participatory role-plays organized by age-group, such as Story Telling, Dance and Fashion modeling , Fitness, Nutrition, Tours to farms and industry; Under active consideration are guest-trainer sessions and such variation in the menu of programs.
• Special courses will be mounted to delve into subjects like Parenting in post COVID times, House Manager (domestic staff) training, the basics of First-Aid, Homecare, activities offering psychosocial support that leads to cultivating honesty, trust and loyalty etc.
• Children’s World is more than willing to introduce and incorporate a Senior Citizens exercise class and walking sessions to our regular programming, depending on demand for such a service.
Children’s World takes great pride in its Brand. Play Centres and Crèche models that have emerged have taken positively the continuous engagement, innovative ideas and feedback of parents and corporate clients. All our clients remain free to visit and discuss ongoing operations with the friendly and efficient Management at Children’s World. In this regard Children’s World has opted to run a limited number of quality establishments and retain the liberty to say no to clients where quality and standards may be compromised.
